What Is Mediation?
]

Mediation is a structured process of resolving conflicts through dialogue

In

military contexts

it is

a  way  to

restore balance

and

prevent burnout

Globally, mediation is a recognized tool for the peaceful resolution of conflicts of any scale, for negotiation, and for rehabilitation after traumatic experiences

It is an evidence-based practice that has been used worldwide at an official level since at least the 1970s

[

Conflicts in the military are inevitable

This approach not only helps resolve conflicts “here and now,” but also lays the foundation for post-war recovery — both at the level of individuals (internal conflicts, family conflicts, conflicts within units) and at the level of society as a whole

The Goal Is
More Than Just an Agreement

If classical mediation aims to resolve a dispute, military mediation also seeks to restore the capacity to function, preserve cohesion, rebuild trust, and reduce the level of trauma

It is a synthesis of legal, ethical, psychological, and humanitarian approaches, adapted to the realities of war

Mediation Works for Both Military and Civilians

Helps teams act in alignment, truly hear one another, and remain effective even in complex and high-pressure situations

Unit Commanders

Military Units

Fatigue after combat missions, unspoken distrust, internal conflicts
Solution
Mediation sessions release tension, help align positions, and restore team unity
Veterans and Wounded soldiers
problem
Difficult reintegration after the frontline experience, communication difficulties
Solution
Open dialogue helps restore a sense of control, calm, and mutual understanding with loved ones
Families of Service Members
problem
Unexpressed emotions, strained relationships, emotional exhaustion
solution
A safe space for dialogue allows everyone to speak without judgment and rebuild trust within the family
Organizations and Businesses
problem
Stress and conflicts that undermine team stability and performance
solution
The mediation process quickly identifies sources of tension, realigns communication, and restores operational resilience within the team

The Mediator Maintains Balance Where Others Lose It

01

Core  Tool

Helps teams stay aligned, listen to one another, and remain effective even in challenging and high-pressure situations

02

Mediator Competencies

A military mediator must possess the same competencies as a military leader :  self-control, resilience, and emotional endurance

03

the mediators goal

The goal is not only to reach an agreement, but also to foster resilience
While classical mediation aims to resolve a dispute, military mediation also restores the capacity to function, preserves cohesion, rebuilds trust, and reduces trauma levels. It is a synthesis of legal, ethical, psychological, and humanitarian approaches, adapted to the realities of war
